Perfect for selfies: Luke Landrigan took this selfie using a Sony Action Cam mounted on a monopod

Professional surfer and outdoor adventure celebrity Luke Landrigan relied on Sony Action Cam to capture his adventures, which not only involves surfing the waters in La Union, where he runs a surfing school, but also trekking and trail runs, including jumping carelessly into a lake from a rocky cliff.

This last activity recorded him looking straight onto the lens (he was holding the Sony Action cam trained at him) while jumping  slow mo into the waters, the camera capturing clearly his descent under the water and his ascent, despite the splash of water and humidity. The clear video was made possible by the Sony Action cam’s anti-humidity and waterproof features.

As a sturdy and waterproof gadget for recording outdoor experiences, Sony’s wearable camera is gaining popularity among sports enthusiasts, adventure and thrill seekers.

For his adventures, Landrigan used the Sony Action Cam HDR-AS30V. It can shoot smooth, blur-free Full HD video and still photos using primarily an Exmor R CMOS sensor and wide-angle lens with SteadyShot. Its WiFi feature makes for easy sharing of video or images with a smartphone. Its NFC feature also works well with NFC capable smartphones–you can use the  smartphone as a live view device while recording video or taking photo using the Action Cam.  Images are saved in the Action Cam and the smartphone, but for the recorded video, you have to save it in your smartphone for the smartphone to have a copy.

Accessories for the Sony Action Cam are wide range

What makes this wearable camera more useful is the applications. For example, when you record videos, the GPS data is also captured. The Multi View reads speed information recorded by the GPS, creating an exciting speedometer-style video overlay. Two-screen Multi View combines video files captured simultaneously with two different cameras, creating a split-screen composite combining your own point of view with a friend’s.

This coming April, Sony will launch the Action Cam HDR-AS100V, which is already completely splash proof with no need for a separate housing. It is also smaller that previous Action Cam models and its SteadyShot feature is made more better when handling camera wobbles and vibration.

The suggested retail price for the upcoming Sony Action Cam HDR-AS100V is in the P20,000 range and already comes with accessories.

The Sony Action Cam previous models is priced at P18,000 range.
